Grooming a Cavapoo in Singapore's humidity
By Nelson and Kim, AVS licensed pet shop owners · Updated 12 July 2026
How often should a Cavapoo be groomed in Singapore?
Brush curly coats near-daily and wavy coats two to three times a week; bathe every two to three weeks; book professional grooming every four to eight weeks depending on coat; and clean ears weekly. Humidity accelerates matting here, so the between-groom brushing matters more than anywhere else.
The humidity-adjusted schedule
| Task | Curly coat (F1b-type) | Wavy coat (F1-type) | Why in Singapore |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brushing | near daily | 2–3× a week | damp coats knot overnight |
| Bath | every 2–3 weeks | every 2–3 weeks | weekly strips oils; wipes between |
| Professional trim | every 4–6 weeks | every 6–8 weeks | shorter cuts survive humidity |
| Ear check + clean | weekly | weekly | drop ears trap moisture |
| Nails | every 3–4 weeks | every 3–4 weeks | pavement walks file less than you think |
Coat type follows generation more than colour; see F1 vs F1b explained.
Matting: the one problem that causes all the others
Nearly every grooming disaster we hear about on aftercare WhatsApp starts with a mat. Left alone, a knot becomes a felted pad against the skin, and the groomer's only kind option is shaving. The fix is boring and works: brush the friction zones, behind the ears, armpits, collar line, every session, and never bathe over an existing mat because water tightens it like a wet shoelace.
This is also why we walk every family through the grooming items at delivery: the slicker brush, shampoo, dry shampoo and ear cleanser in the starter kit are the exact tools this schedule assumes. Ten minutes of demonstration at handover saves a shaved, embarrassed dog at month four.

Ears, eyes and the face trim
Two climate-specific habits pay for themselves. First, weekly ear cleaning: drop ears plus 80% humidity is the classic setup for yeast infections, and a 60-second wipe with the kit's ear cleanser prevents most of them. Anything smelly, red or head-shaky goes to the vet.
Second, keep the face trimmed short around the eyes. Lighter Cavapoo coats show tear staining, and hair wicking into the eyes makes it worse. Ask your groomer for a round teddy face with clear eye corners; it photographs better anyway. Styles and groomer briefs are in the haircuts guide.
Weekly 10-minute routine
- Ear wipe with cleanser: 2 minutes
- Eye corners wiped with damp pad: 1 minute
- Friction-zone brush: 5 minutes
- Paw and pad check after park walks: 2 minutes
Frequently asked questions
How often should I bathe a Cavapoo in Singapore?
Every two to three weeks is a sensible baseline, sooner after a muddy park trip. Weekly bathing, which some sites recommend, strips coat oils and can irritate skin; daily paw wipes and the occasional dry shampoo cover the in-between. [VERIFY exact cadence house-recommendation with owner]
How often does a Cavapoo need professional grooming?
Every 4 to 6 weeks for curly coats, 6 to 8 for wavier ones. Regulars at Singapore groomers pay roughly $70 to $120 per full session for a dog this size, so it is the biggest recurring line in the yearly budget.
Why does my Cavapoo keep matting behind the ears?
Friction plus humidity. Behind the ears, the armpits and the collar line mat first because movement rubs damp coat into knots. Slicker-brush those three zones every brushing session, and never bathe over an existing mat; water tightens it.
How do I clean Cavapoo ears, and how often?
Weekly in our climate. Drop ears trap moisture, which is the setup for infections. Use the ear cleanser from the starter kit on a cotton pad, wiping only what you can see; anything smelly or inflamed goes to the vet, not deeper cleaning.
When can a Cavapoo puppy have its first groom?
A gentle intro session, face, feet and hygiene trim, is fine once vaccinations are complete after week 12, with the first full groom around 5 to 6 months. Early positive sessions decide whether grooming is a spa day or a wrestling match for the next decade.
