Cavapoo vs Cockapoo: which fits your energy?

By Nelson and Kim, AVS licensed pet shop owners · Updated 12 July 2026

Cavapoo or Cockapoo: what's the real difference?

Energy. Both are Poodle crosses that train easily and shed little, but the Cockapoo's Cocker Spaniel side wants an hour-plus of daily activity while the Cavapoo settles after 20 to 30 minutes. Active families pick the Cockapoo; flat-dwelling office households pick the Cavapoo.

Same Poodle half, different engine

On paper they look like siblings; in a living room they are different dogs. The Cocker Spaniel was bred to work fields all day, and that motor survives the cross: a Cockapoo that gets a toilet-dash walk instead of real exercise turns the flat into its gym by Wednesday.

The Cavalier was bred to sit on laps, and that survives too. After a short morning walk the Cavapoo's plan for the day is your sofa. In Singapore's heat, where midday walks are off the table anyway, that difference decides most households; theexercise guide shows the schedule that actually happens here.

When the Cockapoo is the right answer

Landed home or ground-floor access, teenagers who jog, weekend hikes at MacRitchie: the Cockapoo thrives where the Cavapoo would merely tag along. It is slightly bigger, just as clever, and its exercise need is a feature for the right family, not a flaw.

Our parent shop places Cockapoos too, so the advice is inventory-neutral: tell us your real week on WhatsApp and we will call it honestly, the samelifestyle-first matching we use across the counter.

Frequently asked questions

Which needs more exercise, a Cavapoo or a Cockapoo?

The Cockapoo, by a wide margin. Its Cocker Spaniel side is a working gundog, so plan for an hour-plus of real activity daily, versus 20 to 30 minutes for a Cavapoo. Under-exercised Cockapoos invent hobbies you will not enjoy.

Is a Cockapoo bigger than a Cavapoo?

Usually slightly: Cockapoos commonly finish 6 to 12kg against the Cavapoo’s 3 to 10kg, most of ours toy-sized. Both stay flat-appropriate; the difference you feel is energy, not kilograms.

Are Cockapoos or Cavapoos easier to train?

Both train brilliantly thanks to the Poodle half. The Cockapoo learns fast and needs the stimulation to keep using it; the Cavapoo learns nearly as fast and is content with less. First-time owners with office jobs find the Cavapoo more forgiving.

Which barks more?

Similar moderate levels, different triggers: Cockapoos bark from under-stimulation, Cavapoos from boredom during long alone stretches. In both cases the morning exercise routine, not the breed, decides how quiet your corridor stays.
