Getting around Singapore with a Cavapoo

By Nelson and Kim, AVS licensed pet shop owners · Updated 12 July 2026

How do you transport a dog in Singapore without a car?

Pets are not allowed on the MRT or public buses, so the practical options are Grab Pet (a few dollars over a normal fare), dedicated pet taxis for bigger trips, or a friend's car with the carrier belted in. A 3 to 10kg Cavapoo in a carrier is the easiest possible passenger.

The rules, so you plan around them

Public transport is the hard no: no pets on trains or buses, assistance dogs excepted. Taxis are driver's discretion, which in practice means calling ahead or using the pet options built into ride apps. The good news is that a small breed in a carrier faces none of the friction a large dog does; this is one more place the Cavapoo's flat-friendly size quietly pays off.

The three trips that actually happen

New owners picture beach outings; the real transport calendar is the week-12 vet visit, grooming every four to eight weeks if you use a salon without pickup, and the occasional cafe weekend. Book Grab Pet for the first, choose a groomer with transport or within walking distance for the second, and walk or ride to the third; many east-side and river-side cafes welcome small dogs on leads.

Carrier habits worth building early

The kit carrier should mean naps, not needles: leave it open at home with a blanket inside from week one, feed the odd meal in it, and the dog that hops in happily for a cafe trip is the same one that stays calm on vet day. Belt it through the handle in any car, boot never.

Transport cheat sheet

  • MRT and buses: not allowed for pets
  • Grab Pet: everyday option, small surcharge
  • Pet taxis: bigger trips, saved number
  • Car: carrier belted through the handle
  • Carrier training starts at home, week one

Frequently asked questions

Are dogs allowed on the MRT or buses in Singapore?

No, pets are not allowed on MRT trains or public buses (only assistance dogs are). Plan around Grab Pet, pet taxis or a private car for any trip beyond walking distance. [VERIFY current SMRT/LTA wording before publishing externally]

What is Grab Pet and what does it cost?

A Grab ride option where drivers accept pets, typically a few dollars above a standard fare. A Cavapoo in a carrier or on a lap towel is exactly the passenger it exists for; book it like any ride and add a note about your dog’s size.

Can my Cavapoo ride loose in the car?

It should not. A carrier belted through the handle, or a harness with a seatbelt attachment, protects the dog and keeps it from becoming a projectile at a sudden brake. The kit carrier is the right size for exactly this.

How do non-drivers manage vet trips?

Comfortably: most vet visits are scheduled (week-12 jab, then annual boosters), so a booked Grab Pet works fine. Keep a pet-taxi number saved for urgent trips, and note that some clinics offer house-call services for routine care.
