Cavapoo teething: the age, the timeline, the survival guide

By Nelson and Kim, AVS licensed pet shop owners · Updated 12 July 2026

When do Cavapoos teethe?

Cavapoo teething runs from about 3.5 months, peaks through months four and five, and finishes with all 42 adult teeth by month six or seven. Expect enthusiastic chewing, the odd blood-spotted toy and swallowed baby teeth; all normal, all temporary.

The timeline on your calendar

Your puppy arrives at week nine with a full set of needle-sharp baby teeth; enjoy the relative peace. Around month 3.5 the incisors loosen first, molars go last, and the chewing urge climbs with the gum ache. By month six or seven it is over, permanently, and whatever chewing survives is habit or boredom, which is atraining matter, not a dental one.

Offer, protect, redirect

The system that works in flat after flat: two chew toys out, two in the drawer, swapped every few days so novelty never fades; a frozen damp washcloth for the sore-gum evenings; and cables, slippers and rattan furniture treated as confiscated evidence until month seven. Every mouthing of a hand gets the same boring response, redirect to a toy, so bite inhibition builds without drama.

The one vet check worth knowing about

Small breeds occasionally retain a baby tooth beside its adult replacement, usually a canine. Left in place it traps food and tilts the bite, so if you spot a double row at month seven, mention it at your next visit; removal is quick and routine.

Teething kit

  • Two toys out, two hidden, rotate often
  • Frozen damp washcloth for sore evenings
  • Fingernail test: too hard to dent = too hard
  • No cooked bones, ever
  • Double row of teeth at 7 months: vet visit

Frequently asked questions

At what age do Cavapoos start and stop teething?

Baby teeth start falling around 3.5 to 4 months, chewing peaks through month four and five, and the full set of 42 adult teeth is in by 6 to 7 months. If intense chewing continues well past month seven, that is boredom wearing a teething costume.

What should I let my Cavapoo chew during teething?

Rotate the chew toys from the starter kit, keeping two out and two hidden so novelty stays high, and add a clean damp washcloth twisted and frozen for sore gums. Avoid cooked bones and anything harder than a fingernail-dent test allows.

Is it normal to find blood spots or missing teeth?

Completely. A tiny blood smear on a toy or a missing incisor you never find (they usually swallow them, harmlessly) is standard teething. A retained baby tooth still in place alongside its adult tooth at month seven is worth showing your vet.

Why does my puppy bite hands more in the evening?

Overtiredness, not teething. Puppies need 18-plus hours of sleep, and the 9pm nip-and-zoom hour is the classic sign of too little. An enforced pen nap in the early evening fixes it faster than any chew toy.
